Variego3 at the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum

April 27th at 6PM – Free and Open to the public
2743 Wimpole Ave. Knoxville, 37914

This year continues with wonderful energy and projects. On April 27th @ 6:00 PM the Variego3 will be presenting the new show “And the trees ...” at the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum with original music and poetry by Knoxville poet laureate Rhea Carmon. With Jorge Variego (clarinets and compositions), Jack Roben (guitar) and Rob Linton (bass). This concert is free and open to the public.

About the trio:

Inspired by Jimmy Giuffre, the Variego3 has a chamber music vibe with a woody sound. “It's a true joy to hear this amazing ensemble of world-class musicians interact with one another, feeding off each other's chemistry and ability to create massively infectious, yet classy and understated melodies. Whether you are a fan of modern jazz, or you prefer the old guard, you'll certainly be impressed. This group has got so much to offer, and they bring an unprecedented level of charisma to this genre today.” - Jazz Corner

About the guest poet:

Award-winning wordsmith Rhea Carmon is a force that weaves passion, purpose, and power into poetry. She is a teacher, mentor, motivational poet, and inspiration to all that come in contact with her. Rhea's life lessons and stories create space for conversation and understanding. She will motivate and inspire students and adults to be the best form of themselves on a daily basis. For twenty years, RheaSunshine has traveled the nation, sharing her gift of the spoken word and facilitating self-expression, liberation, and healing. This art form has led her to touch lives at universities and educational institutions as well as civic engagements and festivals. Bringing Rhea to your school, district, or event will transform your students and staff by challenging every person to find the beauty in education and the inspiration that every day brings.

Press reviews:

"... what I love the most about this album is the incredible variety of textures and organic sounds within. The ensemble has a warm, roomy tone which reminds me of old jazz records. On the other hand, the band is not afraid to experiment with distortion effects, li-fi dynamics and many other elements adding a grittier character to the mix.

The sheer variety of sounds and influences in this release is also quite fantastic, giving the tracks a unique and memorable feel that truly stands out."- Stacey Zering INK19

“...the Domino Ensemble’s debut album is an intriguing journey filled with contrasts and surprising shifts. The performers are all seasoned veterans who collaborate with ease and instinctively cross genres to form a style which is distinctly their own. Purple Ego is released by Centaur Records and is available on Spotify, Apple Music and from all major music retailers.” - Zachary Dierick – The Clarinet December 2020

“[...] the ensemble’s music should be right up your alley if you enjoy the sound of contemporary jazz with a bit of an experimental vibe to it. At the end of the day, the band’s personality is creative and one-of-a-kind, and there’s something quite outstanding about its ability to think differently.” Bandcamp Diaries – July 2021

*This project is being supported in whole or in part by federal award number 21.027 awarded to the City of Knoxville by the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Arts & Culture
** The Variego3 is sponsored by the Domino Ensemble a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the performance, commission, and promotion of new music.
