Permaculture Garden

Our Permaculture Garden was designed by the Knoxville Permaculture Guild to model a sustainable home landscape.  Installed in 2017 by the Knoxville Permaculture Guild and the East Tennessee Permaculture Research Institute, the purpose of the Permaculture Garden is to educate our visitors about how they can incorporate permaculture principles in their own front yards.

According to the guild, “Permaculture landscapes are designed to be self-reliant requiring little human maintenance, are modeled after the ecology of the land, and include several layers of tree canopy.” The landscape in front of the Education Cottage will be updated as a model of sustainable systems that features a blend of edibles, natives, and perennials that are planted in layers around a drainage mandala.
