Green Drinks Garden

About This Garden

The focus of the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum’s Green Drinks Garden will be on the agriculture of spirits.  The Green Drinks Garden will showcase plants that have been grown around the world to brew, distill, and infuse visitors’ favorite and less-familiar beverages.  Attractive interpretive plant labels will provide information about the culture and history of each specimen.  The idea for the garden was inspired by members of Green Drinks Knoxville during a staff led presentation in 2017.

As a feature of the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum’s Center for Urban Agriculture, we hope the space can also be used to educate area farmers on the culture of plants to further support our region’s burgeoning local brewery, distillery, and winery economy.  In addition to the educational value, the Green Drinks Garden will be a beautiful feature that will attract a wide variety of visitors.  Lovely spring blooms offruit trees and bulbs, bold summer flowers of herbs, and delicate heads of grain in the fall will make this new garden the gem of the western side of our 47-acre property.

How You Can Help

Helping our gardens grow is as easy as buying a drink!

Our partners at PostModern Spirits are currently serving a Spanish Gin and Tonic with proceeds going toward the Green Drinks Garden.  Check out this fun video from Knoxville Weekend to learn more about this signature cocktail!  For every Spanish Gin and Tonic sold, PostModern is donating 25% of the proceeds to the Green Drinks Garden.

Blackhorse Brewery has created a delicious Kölsch ale with proceeds going toward the Green Drinks Garden.  Head brewer Ben Copelin describes this Botanical Brew as, “A light drinking Ale that drinks much like a lager. Notes of pear like fruitiness come through from the Kolsch yeast, and hints of citrus zest from the hops.”

For every Botanical Brew sold, Blackhorse and Eagle Distributing are donating to create our new Green Drinks Garden! Cans are available at SoKno Taco Cantina, Bearden Beer Market, Hops and Hollers, Maple Hall, Merchants of Beer, Public House, South Coast Pizza, Total Wine and More, Trailhead Beer Market, and the Downtown Knoxville, Maryville, and Thunderhead Casual Pints.

Stay tuned to our e-newsletter, website, and social media for updates on upcoming fundraiser events with partner breweries, distilleries, and wineries!
