Purpose: We’re partnering with the TN Department of Transportation to find and document pollinator and grassland habitat along Tennessee’s roadsides. Since there over 4000 miles of highways to survey, we need some help! In this training, you’ll learn everything you need to know to help us uncover the hidden grasslands along our state’s highways. After the training, we hope you’ll spend some time exploring the highways near you and making observations to assist us with the project.
What to expect: The training will consist of two parts. First, we’ll start out in the classroom and teach you how to use iNaturalist to do ecological surveys, how to identify a grassland in the field, a crash course in field botany, and more. Then, we’ll head out to a couple field sites to put everything we learned in the classroom into practice. We’ll send you home with a field guide that will include helpful tips to consider when you’re out surveying this season, as well as a list of plant species to look out for.
