The Knoxville Garden Club and the Garden Study Club will hold their 49th annual Talahi Plant Sale on Saturday, April 13th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Lakeshore Park. This year’s theme, “Petals from the Past,” celebrates the rich heritage of this event as it is considered to be the oldest plant sale in the area. We will be offering heirloom and award-winning varieties of native and non-native plants and vegetables that will certainly complement any garden. Garden enthusiasts will be able to purchase hundreds of varieties of perennials, annuals, wildflowers, shrubs and herbs. The perennial and wildflower areas will feature over 1000 plants which have been lovingly grown, nurtured and dug from the member’s gardens. Besides a wonderful selection of Lenten roses, astilbe, bleeding heart, ferns, trillium and poppies, there will be some unique hostas and fabulous colors of heuchera to choose from this year. Also, we will have a beautiful hardy Hibiscus and two varieties of Dianthus from garden designer, Ryan Gainey, and Lavatera ‘Barnsley” from Barnsley Gardens. Annuals will include many new and unusual varieties of “proven winners for 2013,” along with some old favorites which have been locally grown. Our assistants can give you some great ideas for using annuals in borders and mixed planters. Herbs will have over 35 varieties of flowering, culinary and medicinal herbs for sale with multiple varieties of favorites such as rosemary, sage, lavender and thyme. Don’t forget “Ask an Expert” where some of Knoxville’s most experienced gardeners will be available to answer your questions. The Marketplace consignment area will feature area vendors with many garden accessories and gifts. New this year will be Joppa Mountain Pottery as well as X-teme Products. Josie Sibold will once again bring her fabulous concrete garden art. Don’t forget to visit the Kutzu Café for lunch and the Sugar Shack where homemade cakes, bread, cookies and snacks will be sale along with some special treats from local “celebrity chefs.” Also, the Green Elephant section will have a collection of gently used items from member, including planters, tools, linens, art and other garden accessories. When you purchase a plant at the Talahi Plant Sale, you are making your garden and the community a more beautiful place to live! Over $250,000 has been given back to the community over the past 10 years of this event. Proceeds from last year’s sale benefitted over 15 community and education projects, including Blount Mansion, Childhelp of East TN, Dogwood Arts Festival, Friends of the UT Gardens, Ijams Nature Center, Knoxville Botanical Garden & Arboretum, Knox Youth Sports, Legacy Parks Foundation, Old Gray Cemetery, Random acts of Flowers and the Salvation Army. The event is sponsored by All Occasions Party Rentals, Ann and Steve Bailey, Bob’s Package Store, The Episcopal School of Knoxville, NewsTalk 98.7, Northshore Town Center, Rose Mortuary, Tennessee Turf Masters, Threds, “Under the Fig Leaf” and WBIR – TV.
